Goshen College Men’s Soccer celebrated six goals this past weekend when they traveled to Sylvania, Ohio to take on Lourdes University.
The win brought the men’s record to 3-3 and the first two goals for the Maple Leafs were collegiate firsts for juniors Jimelle Ramkissoon and Joao Vitor.Ramkissoon opened the scoreline at the 28-minute mark after touching in a cross from senior Spencer Aeschliman. Five minutes later, Vitor found the net from a rebounded shot. Senior Alejandro Rosales claimed the third goal at the 36-minute mark off another Aeschliman assist. This took the Maple Leafs into halftime with the scoreline at 3-0.
Ramkissoon found himself once again on the scoresheet in the 51st minute after he shot the ball 20-yards out following a pass from senior, Nate Nussbaum.
Nussbaum was then able to find the net himself 10 minutes later for the fifth goal after he rebounded a deflected shot from Aeschliman. With three assists, Aeschliman was one assist short of a school record, currently held by Scott Bodiker from Oct. 7, 1989, against Bluffton.
Freshman Lucas Bontreger took the Maple Leafs to six as he slotted the ball into the net after beating the keeper one-on-one. The goal came in the 63rd minute and was Bontreger’s first in a Goshen jersey.
Lourdes left it late but were eventually able to make it onto the scoreboard. With one second remaining in the game, Savio Adams struck a 30-yard last effort shot that found its way into the goal to prevent the Maple Leafs walking away with a clean sheet.
Goshen College is next in action on Wednesday, September 12 at home to Siena Heights University at 7 p.m.
