The Goshen College women’s basketball team hosted Crossroads League opponent Bethel College Wednesday night, ultimately falling 65-52 to the visiting Pilots. Despite leading 11-10 after the first quarter, the Leafs were outscored in each of the last three quarters as Bethel pulled away. The Leafs attempted a late run to challenge the Pilots’ lead, but Bethel was able to put the game away with late free throws.
Goshen was led offensively by Gabby Williams, a senior, and Lynnia Noel, a senior, who recorded 16 and 14 points apiece. The next highest scoring Leaf was Caitlyn O’Neal, a junior, who tallied seven points. Williams also posted a team-high 10 rebounds with Haley Archibeque, a sophomore, Kelsey Fraley, a senior, each recording three rebounds and O’Neal, Angela McLean, a senior, and Donnae Lipinski, a first-year, all adding two. Noel had a team-high four assists with O’Neal recording two.Williams, McLean and O’Neal each recorded one of Goshen’s three blocks. Noel and Fraley each recorded a pair of steals to lead the Leafs with Williams, Archibeque, McLean and Natalie Thorne, a senior, each notching one steal.
With the loss, Goshen’s record falls to 13-12 (7-6 in conference) on the season. The men’s basketball team also hosted Bethel after the women’s game with the game finishing after print deadline. The Leafs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to play the University of Saint Francis at 1:00 p.m.
