I feel tired. I feel cynical and jaded. I want the incessant anxiety -, that from now until I pass every aspect of my life will be controlled by an algorithm -, to go away. But since the tech oligarchs that run this country don’t seem take into consideration anything except how to make more money, here’s some things to consider the next time you use AI:
This technology is affecting my home. The land that nourished me and watched me grow is being suffocated by the glorification of greed all in the name of human progress. I choose nature. This technology is affecting my future. More and more entry level jobs are fading away, stripping younger generations of the opportunity to learn, improve and rise to the occasion. I choose growth.
This technology is affecting my learning. Professors may have already spent all the time they wanted studying and learning about the things they’re passionate about, but I haven’t gotten that much time. I choose learning.
This technology is affecting my economy. Investing in things for their potential isn’t good business, it isn’t smart and it certainly is considering those who aren’t rich enough to have a say. I choose consideration.
This technology is affecting my life. Every app I open, every poster I see, every technology I use and every news story I read is infested by AI, usually where the inconsistent and incomprehensible implementations of it are not needed. I choose purposefulness.
Everything good ever done has been done by humans working together. I don’t think it’s crazy to say I want it to stay that way. I trust people in my community a hell of a lot more to provide me with aid in times of need, guide me towards a better tomorrow and look out for my safety and well being than I do Peter Thiel, Sam Altman, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk to do the same. What AI comes to and how we decide to use it is ultimately up to us. At the end of the day I’ll always choose human.
