JustPeace seminars will be hosting two opportunities for the Goshen community to learn about peacemaking in Iran and Colombia.
At 7 p.m. today, Nov. 4, in the Koinonia Room in the Church-Chapel, W. Scott Harrop, who teaches in the Middle East studies program at the University of Virginia, will present "The Audacity of Mutual Respect: A Better Path for U.S.-Iran Relations--And Why it Matters." The evening will specifically explore President Obama's mutual-respect approach to the United States' relationship with Iran, and the implications that come from this. The event is free and open to the public. The presentation will conclude with a time for questions and discussion.
From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 13, also in the Koinonia Room, Father Alberto Franco and Jess Hunger-Bowman will present "Building Peace in a Country at War." Father Franco is a Colombian priest and a renowned leader in the Colombian human rights movement. The evening will focus on the effects of Colombia's war on its civilians, and how Colombian farmers are coping and fighting back. The cost is $5 for students and $10 for all others.
