Students living in the Kratz, Miller and Yoder dorms will be greeted by two new Resident Directors this fall. The current directors, Heather Goertzen and DaVonne Harris, will be resigning from their positions at the end of May Term.
For Goertzen, this marks the end of three years as an RD, a role she began in the fall of 2010. Harris is stepping down from a position that started in fall 2011.
“This is one of the first times when there will be a complete switchover in KMY,” Goertzen said.
Both Goertzen and Harris expressed love and gratitude toward students. “Connecting with all of them has greatly enriched my life,” said Harris. “I have loved the opportunity to help students develop their potential, provide great overall support and see their growth over the years."
“It was a privilege to be involved in pretty specific moments for people: good, bad and otherwise,” said Goertzen. “I appreciated getting to have glimpses into peoples' lives and histories.”
After this year, Goertzen will be moving to a yet to be determined location with her husband, Wes Goertzen, who is in his last year of divinity studies at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Ind.
“We moved to Goshen with the plan of being here for three years while he finishes at seminary,” said Heather Goertzen. “He is interested in a pastoral position somewhere.”
Job selection won’t be the only factor affecting Goertzen’s living situation. “[Wes and I] are expecting,” she said, “so that did solidify what might be coming up for us.”
Harris said she wouldn’t necessarily be going anywhere.
“You may possibly see me next year with another role at GC," Harris said. "Right now, I am focusing on entering graduate school within the next 2-3 years to pursue a doctorate in psychology."
