On Monday, the annual housing info night was hosted by Residence Life for all students to learn more about the housing options for next year. After introducing the system first imposed last spring for applying for housing and roommates, an emphasis was also placed on reinforcing the correct way to go through the process.

Hosted by Chandler Buchfeller, associate dean of students, it was revealed that Coffman Residence Hall will now be used in place of Kulp Residence Hall. This is due to the fact that Coffman holds a better student-to-fixture ratio, including bathrooms and kitchens. Coffman also includes the same amount of washers and dryers as Kulp — two of each.

While Kulp was active housing it was the cheapest option available to students, pricing below Kratz, Miller and Yoder Residence Halls, Octavio Romero Student Apartment, and intentional living communities. Now the third and fourth floors, available to rising juniors and seniors,

are priced between the traditional residence halls and ILC’s. Still available to all classes, gender inclusive housing will move to

the first and second floors of Coffman. In addition, all the rooms in Coffman are single-person rooms besides one second floor room which can accommodate two people.

Buchfeller also extensively

went through the process of applying for roommates and housing. In order to apply for an ILC, a group of students must establish a contact person, who will apply on behalf of the group, including the theme and group history.

Groups will also be prioritized if they have rising seniors, with other groups to be placed afterwards. Video tours of all three ILC’s are available on GC’s website. ILC applications opened Wednesday, continuing until Feb. 20, with placements to be announced on Feb. 27.

First and second years are still required to house in the Kratz and Yoder Residence Halls, but private double rooms are available for an increased price. With accommodations in each residence hall being slightly different, students will look to apply for the housing in the dorms that they prefer.

Housing applications will open for all students on Feb. 16 at 12 p.m. and close March 4 at 5 p.m. Roommate selection will open on Feb. 19 at 12 p.m. and close on March 6 at 5 p.m.
