On Saturday March 19, Ira Glass, creator and host of the public radio show “This American Life,” will bring his talents to Sauder Concert Hall.

The event, titled “Reinventing Radio: An Evening with Ira Glass,” is an exciting addition to Goshen College’s Performing Arts Series

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., Glass will host a talk discussing his radio program and the process through which it was created.

In the simplest explanation of the show, the program sticks to a weekly theme around which stories are compiled and then aired.

These shows, however, cannot be categorized as news or even as a talk show; it is a format unique in and of itself.

“This American Life” airs on National Public Radio (NPR) stations as well as the local WVPE public radio station.Delving into the development of the program, Glass will expand on the show’s reliance on compelling storytelling as well as on the important investigative research done when searching for show content.

Brian Mast, Music Center managing director said, “I think [the show] will really connect with our audience because a lot of them are NPR listeners.”

Throughout the evening, audience members will witness the creation of the 20-year-old radio program that, for many, has only ever been received through the speaker of their radio.

Glass will recreate his show on stage, using a mixture of pre-recorded sound bites, music and of course his own narration. At the end of his performance, Glass will open up a question-and-answer session with the audience.

A private reception with Glass will be held before the event for Goshen College and WVPE station donors by invitation only.

A full house is expected for the event, as all but eight seats have been sold. For further ticket information, search online at www.goshen.edu/tickets, welcomecenter@goshen.edu or call the the Welcome Center at (574) 535-7566.
