This weekend when you're devouring a plate of doughnuts or consuming a haystack at the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale, take a look at the material of the plate you're using--probably styrofoam.

This year, the EcoPax club is making plans for changes concerning waste at the Relief Sale.

"The people who used to do trash [at the Relief Sale] are no longer doing it, which provided the opportunity for the Relief Sale to be more earth-conscious," said Hannah Eberly, a sophomore and co-leader of EcoPax. This year, EcoPax will be in charge of properly disposing of the waste after the sale is over.

Although not many new things will be implemented this year regarding waste disposal and composting, "It's more about being part of this conversation and helping Earth Group (a community networking group) brainstorm for next year," Eberly said.

The Relief Sale will take place Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. until mid-afternoon.  EcoPax will help set up on Friday morning from 10 to 11 to help with trash pick-up and recycling efforts, and help with trash disposal on Monday in two-hour time slots from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Those interested in helping should contact Eberly at hannahe4@goshen.edu.
