Seven members of the Goshen College track team achieved personal records this past weekend at the Grand Valley State Bill Clinger Open.

While Saturday’s events were cancelled due to weather, Friday saw the seven GC athletes participate in the 3,000-meter race.

Kevin Kipkemboi, a first-year, lead the Maple Leafs on the Men’s side. Kipkemboi paced all NAIA schools and finished with a time of 8:55. His efforts were good enough for 21st overall at the meet.

Right behind Kipkemboi was Salvador Escamilla, a junior with a time of 8:57. Juan Perez, Dan Kibet, Jackson Steinmetz and Solomon Wiebe-Powell were the other male athletes to achieve personal records.

The women’s track team brought lone runner Makayla Collier, a junior, who competed in her first-ever 3,000 meter race at the collegiate level.

Collier finished with a time of 11:24, which place her 66th overall. The next event for the men’s and women’s track teams will be hosted at the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center on Jan. 25, for the Goshen College Race Walk. Both teams will then travel on Feb. 1 to Indiana Wesleyan University’s for the Midwest Classic.
