Knights Protect Home Court against Maple Leafs

The women’s basketball team fell 69-57 to fifth ranked Marian Knights this past Saturday. The team traveled to Indianapolis looking for the first win of the new year and their first win in conference play.

During the matchup, the Maple Leafs attempted to keep up with the scoring of the Knights. But as the final seconds came to an end, Marian had secured the victory.

The Knights had four of the five starters score in double figures, while the Maple Leafs had two.

TaNiece Chapman, a sophomore, led the Maple Leafs with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Fellow sophomore Graysen Cockerham followed up with efficient 11 points on five of eight shooting on the floor.

The Maple Leafs struggled to protect the basketball as they combined to have 20 turnovers. However, the Leafs did achieve 14 assists and also won the rebounding battle versus the Knights 40-35.

After the loss, the Maple Leafs record sits at 7-11 and 0-6 in the Crossroads League. The men’s team also suffered a loss at the hands of the 8th ranked Knights, losing 92-81.

Both teams can next be seen at home on Saturday, Jan. 18, as they face Bethel University for a joint Pride Night and U.S Highway 20 matchup. The Maple Leafs are currently losing in the Highway cup 4-3, with both games being work half a point.
