The Goshen College men and women’s tennis teams traveled to Marian University on Tuesday, Sept. 11 with neither team victoriously returning to campus.

Although the Lady Knights swept the Goshen College women’s tennis team 9-0, senior Chloe Woodward kept the match competitive. Her first set against Mary Mullaney scored 2-6 before the second set secured the win for Mullaney at 6-0. Woodward also paired with Victoria Oakes to secure two games at No. 1 doubles, with a final match score of 8-2.

As for the men’s tennis team, they faced arguably their toughest conference opponent yet, with the Marian University men’s tennis team being the Crossroads League’s two-time defending champions.

The Leafs forced the Marian University Knights to a tiebreak in one doubles match, the third set at No. 2 singles, and a second set tiebreak in two other singles matches.

The Knights won all three tiebreakers and their third set of No.2 singles, but freshman Josh Friesen was able to continue his five-match win streak by defeating Noah Roberts.

The men’s tennis team left Indianapolis on Tuesday with a final score of 8-1, earning Goshen their first Crossroads League loss on the season and an overall record of  4-1. The women’s team record now stands at 2-4.

Both teams can next be seen in action at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament that will take place from Sept. 13-15 in Marion, Indiana.
