Urban Gypsy & Co., a vintage and handmade goods store, will be offering calligraphy classes to the community.

Calligraphy means “beautiful writing.” It is a unique form of art and according to Beller, “It will be a lot of fun” for Goshen to learn.

The store is on East Lincoln Street, located next to the Soapy Gnome and Venturi’s, and features 45 handmade vintage dealers from the local area. Urban Gypsy & Co. sells mostly “upcycled” goods, such as handmade furniture, baby items and home decor.

The store opened on the first Friday of June 2014. It is open to the public from 10:30AM to 5PM, Wednesday through Saturday.

The first calligraphy class will be held at the store on Saturday March 28 at 6 p.m., but more classes will be offered in the future. The cost of the class is $35 and will include cupcakes and beverages and will provide members with calligraphy tools and paper to take home. Co-owner of Urban Gypsy and calligrapher McKenzie Beller will teach the class.

Beller has a passion for calligraphy and also enjoys typography and writing, which drove her to offer the classes to the public. The classes are open to anyone 18 or older. The class will be a basic beginners’ course. Beller will be teaching a more modern take on calligraphy, including how to write the alphabet.

To take part in the calligraphy class, you can register at Urban Gypsy & Co at 111 E Lincoln Downtown Goshen.
