Four generations travel across the country by bike
Dan Eash Scott, a sophomore history and social work double major, biked across the United States with his father and younger brother this summer. His grandpa rounded off the intergenerational crew by driving the support vehicle. The trip was inspired by another experience that happened exactly 20 years ago, in 2001. After graduating from Goshen college, Eash Scott’s father biked across the United States with his friend to visit and attend a game at every MLB stadium. The idea of reviving the trip 20 years later was appealing to Eash Scott because he had always wanted to go on a...

Meqbil solidifies passion for biochemistry during summer research fellowship
Yazan Meqbil spent more than 500 hours in a laboratory this summer. While that might sound unappealing to most, Meqbil says it was one of the most informative experiences of his life thus far. Meqbil, a senior Goshen College student majoring in molecular biology and biochemistry, worked as a research fellow at Purdue University’s College of Pharmacy — a position that is typically only available to Purdue students. From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., five days a week, for 10 weeks, Meqbil hunkered down in a lab and studied the N-terminal methylation of 24 s.cerevisiae (baker’s yeast) substrates through investigating...

Students look back on 2018 Summer Inquiry Program
With the beginning of the 2018 academic year comes the end of the 2018 Summer Inquiry Program. The Summer Inquiry Program offers scholarships to students who spend three months in service with a church-related service or mission agency. The goal of the Inquiry Program is to facilitate significant student engagement with service under the sponsorship of a church agency and through the instruction of an on-site mentor. While in the program, students are expected to learn from both their active service and from observation of others engaged in service. They are also expected to participate actively in the life of...

Inquiry program participants explore faith, vocation
Every summer, Goshen College students have the opportunity to take part in GC Campus Ministry Inquiry programs volunteering for congregations, camps, and service agencies across the world while exploring faith and vocation in the process. This summer, the program’s 30th year, 12 students participated in the three inquiry programs: Service, Camping, and Ministry. The inquiry programs are “high-impact,” said Bob Yoder, Goshen College’s campus pastor. Through them all, students have the opportunity for real-life experience in a faith-related field, building strong relationships with their supervisors and learning about themselves in the process. Yoder works with students to discern proper placement...

Even During Summer, Campus Thrives
As students push through finals and look toward May Term, summer break begins to feel closer and closer for many. But when students pack up their things and part ways for the summer, Goshen College campus will be lively as ever. There are many different camps, programs and workshops offered on campus, including Music Camp, which is returning for music students entering grade nine through graduating high school seniors during the week of June 15 through 21. Christopher Fashun and Scott Hochstetler, both associate professors of music, will be the directors of the camp, helping music students of all voice...
