Men’s and women’s basketball teams go down together
The trip to Marion last Saturday did not spell well for the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The women fell to Indiana Wesleyan University 75-42, putting up their second lowest scoring output on the season. The men were more efficient against the Wildcats, but in the end too many turnovers cost them as they lost 95-78. The women shot an uncharacteristically low 31% (14-45), while the Wildcats shot 52%. Goshen began the game with four straight points but that would be their only lead of the night as the rest of the quarter would belong to the Wildcats who outscored...

Split success for Goshen basketball
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams were in action this past weekend. The men’s team failed to defend the Ruth Gunden Gymnasium as they fell to Trinity International University 79-93 on Saturday. Meanwhile, the women’s team traveled to Western Wisconsin for a weekend tournament hosted by Viterbo University. The Maple Leafs lost Friday’s matchup 77-56 before bouncing back for Saturday’s game to win 70-62. At home, the men began the game playing their brand of basketball. They like to play a physical defense, and when attacking, they look for layups and hunt for 3-point opportunities. On offense, the Maple...

In the women’s game, seniors Haley Archibeque, Caitlyn O’Neal and Sydney Stein all started for the Leafs in their second-to-last home game. St. Francis opened the game with a seven-point run that came to an abrupt halt after a TaNiece Chapman layup with five minutes left in the first quarter. Early Lead Not Enough to Give Leafs First Conference Win
The men’s basketball team fell to the nationally ranked Spring Arbor Cougars on Saturday, Jan. 19. Their record drops to 6-16 and 0-10 in the Crossroads League. Rod Wilmont brings a winning culture to Goshen College Basketball
“Dribble-dribble. Cross-cross. Between the legs. Hit the three!” said Roderick Wilmont, an assistant coach. This is how afternoon basketball practice begins for the Goshen College Men’s Basketball Team. “Get hot, Ryan!” Wilmont yelled to a first-year during a shooting drill. This may sound typical of a college basketball practice, but the man yelling it is not your average coach. Wilmont grew up in the Miami area playing basketball, where he did not start playing the game until he was 7 or 8 years old. “My mom played basketball at Baylor University and my dad was all about football,” Wilmont said....

Roderick Wilmont brings winning mentality to Goshen College
“Dribble, dribble, cross, cross, between the legs, hit the three!” Basketball practice is just starting as the men’s team starts their first drill of the afternoon. “Get hot, Ryan!” Coach Roderick “Rod” Wilmont yells to a first-year during their next shooting drill. A lot of NAIA basketball practices may sound like this, but the man yelling these phrases is not your average coach. Wilmont grew up in the Miami area playing basketball. He said he did not start playing the game until he was seven or eight years old. “My mom played basketball at Baylor University and my dad was...
