Workshop helps students navigate SNAP
This past Friday, Patty Hartshorn and Cristina Reyes, both of Health and Wellness, held a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program workshop in Westlawn, offering information and guidance on how to utilize the benefits available for low-income students. SNAP is a program focused on providing low-income students and families with opportunities to receive food assistance through an online application. To qualify for SNAP, individuals must be enrolled for at least six credits, and meet one of eight conditions, including working 20-plus hours a week, having a disability that prevents them from working, caring for a child dependent or in a work-study. Student Senate Summary 02/13
Student Senate met on Monday in their new meeting place, the Mark Community Room in Westlawn, across from the entrance to the dining hall. The meeting began with Aaliah Higareda, president of the art club, who came with a proposal for a club fair in the second semester. Higareda noted that the only club fair of the year happens during orientation week. “Returning students don’t get the opportunity to look at the new clubs,” Higareda said. “And also new clubs form all the time.” The proposal was received positively by the senate, and ideas were tossed around for a club...

Conversations around masculinity
The health and wellness department hosted a bonus convocation titled “Healthy Masculinity: Authentic Conversation,” on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The event, which took place in the evening, drew a crowd of 131 students, with 78 identifying as male, according to Kevin Schultz, assistant director of residence life. Though convocations which address identity and cultural norms aren’t new to campus, they aren’t a frequent occurrence.
