GC bowling team rolls out new theme
The Goshen College men’s and women’s bowling teams are starting their second season of competition, hoping to improve upon their performances last year — and promote breast cancer awareness. The changes for this season will allow both teams to be more connected to their home lanes at Maple City Bowl, 10 minutes away from campus. Last year, team members used a storage room for their clothing and gear. This year, they have official lockers. “They only had this little bitty room, and we shared it with the bowling alley for storage,” said Scott Curtis, the bowling head coach. Now, with...

GC hosts historic home match
Goshen College’s bowling teams made history Saturday, Feb. 1, by hosting their first-ever home tournament at Signature Lanes in Elkhart. The event, which was immediately followed by the Crossroads League Championship, featured eight schools. The women’s team finished fifth with 4,081 pins, just five behind Indiana Wesleyan’s 4,086. The men’s team placed seventh, edging out Bethel University. While neither team advanced to the championship rounds, both squads showed significant growth in a tournament that marked a historic milestone for the Goshen program. Lily Kelley, a first-year elementary education major, was the top performer for the women’s team, finishing eighth out...

Bowling: the new team on campus
Last year, bowling was announced as a brand new athletic team on campus. The announcement of the bowling team brought excitement to campus and with it, new athletes. Head coach Scott Curtis spent the majority of his time last year recruiting the current roster of first-years, which sits at 24. “Having them here is the payoff, and now we are going to get ready to compete,” Curtis said. When asked about coaching, he said, “It’s good to be back in that element because it is what I love, spending more time at the bowling alley working with them.” He also...

How bowling came to GC
Goshen College is beginning to recruit for a new intercollegiate sport: men’s and women’s bowling. Competition is set to begin next fall against seven teams that already have bowling programs in the Crossroads League. The players will form the 15th and 16th intercollegiate teams at GC, with their home games played at Maple City Bowl, a bowling alley on West Pike Street in Goshen. The last team GC established was the men’s volleyball team in 2018. Scott Curtis will serve as the first ever bowling head coach, directing both the men’s and women’s teams. Curtis, who started on Aug. 1,...

Bowling teams coming to GC
The newest sport coming to Goshen College is one of the oldest games in human history: bowling. It can trace its roots back almost 5,000 years, but for GC, the sport will become a part of the athletic department within the next two years. Athletic director Erica Albertin said the goal is to have the teams start in the 2023-24 school year. “We need the coach first before we can set up schedules,” she said. “We have some good connections, and we’re actively searching for the new coach. If we get too far into the Spring, the teams will likely not...
