The Goshen men’s basketball team has played three games in a span of five days, playing a game every other day starting last Thursday, when the men traveled to Bethel to play an exciting conference game and beat the rival Pilots in overtime. The men played a good game but at the end of the second period, Bethel was able to tie up the score and send the game into overtime, where the Maple Leafs where able to pull ahead to win. Senior Jeremy Pope led the team with an impressive 21 points.

Last Saturday, Feb. 5, the men hosted Grace College for another Mid- Central College conference game, where Grace came out on top thanks to an impressive second half. The Lancers took an early lead and were able to hold off the Maple Leafs. This victory breaks a three-game losing streak that Grace had while playing at Goshen College. Senior Carl Steen led in scoring with 16 points.

Finally, last Tuesday, Feb. 8, the Maple Leafs traveled to Fort Wayne to play the University Of Saint Francis, the Defending NAIA Division II National Champion in conference play. The Maple Leafs took an early lead, ending the first period tied with a score of 33-33. The second half started with few changes in the lead, with Goshen holding the lead until the Cougars were able to pull ahead with about 5 minutes left in the game to win the game 77-67. The Leafs were led by sophomore Geofrey Gilot with 14 points.

The three games leave the men’s team with a 9-17 record, 2-11 in the MCC. The men will return to action by hosting Huntington University this Saturday, February 12 at 3 pm.
