Six games into the season, the Goshen College women’s soccer program’s future is looking bright.

The Maple Leafs started the season with a tough 4-1 loss to Viterbo University in the Cardinal Stritch Tournament in Milwaukee, Wis. However, Goshen was able to quickly bounce back the following Monday with a big win against William Penn University by a score of 9-0. This win gave the Leafs momentum that they carried into their regularly scheduled games, winning the next three games over Manchester, Anderson and Andrews University by scores of 2-0, 3-0, and 12-1. However, the Leafs hit a bit of a roadblock by dropping to Trinity International University 2-1, snapping the Leafs’ four-game win streak.

The Maple Leafs have had plenty of offensive scoring opportunities, with the Leafs outscoring their opponents by a total of 28-7. Leading the Maple Leafs is Dana Christner, a junior, with seven goals, followed by Kate Vendrely, a first-year, with five goals, and Marina do Valle, a senior with four goals. After do Valle, two separate Maple Leafs have scored two goals, and seven different Leafs have scored one goal.

The Maple Leafs are back in action Thursday night against Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, with the Leafs’ next home game on Saturday night against Urbana University.
