For someone who craves and obsesses over anything fashion-related, it may be hard to believe that I haven’t always known what I wanted to do with my life. In fact, it wasn’t until the summer of my junior year in high school that things really clicked for me. In July 2010, I started my first blog, Inspire Me. Although it started as a site to share my photo shoots, crafts and fashion items I was pining for, it quickly became something more than that. I also began incorporating personal information: favorite quotes, my decision-making process for colleges and a small obituary for my grandpa. My blog helped me define what I wanted to do with my life. Although I don’t have a specific job in mind, I know it must include several things. First and most obviously, I must somehow be involved in the fashion industry. My passion for all things fashion stems from that feeling you get when you wear something you love and look good in. We all know that feeling: you feel like a million bucks and your confidence oozes. I love that transforming effect. Secondly, I want my job to specifically work towards the betterment of other people’s lives. Wherever I am, I want my job to have a positive impact on the community around me, no matter how big or small that is.
One of my favorite Bible passages helps me focus on both of these goals. “So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline…And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.” [Colossians 3:12-14 (The Message)]
Currently I am working on a communication degree with a business and art double minor. Only God knows where I will end up, and for now, that’s okay. I am content in just enjoying the ride.
Looking back on my first couple blog posts of Inspire Me I found this line: “It feels good to know that there is something out there for me that will indulge all my latest and newest passions, even if I do change my mind as often as I change my clothes.”
And yes, sometimes I do change my outfit in the middle of the day, once or twice or three times…
