February and early March is the hardest time to be a bird in Goshen. Their food supplies are running low, and the weather is less predictable. A chickadee can lose up to 10% of its body weight shivering on a cold night. Yet, this is the time when the bird begins to sing again. Across campus, birds are singing in anticipation of the coming mating season. These photos were taken in Goshen over the course of the past two years. Bird photography has taught me a good deal about patience and having hope.
