[Editors Note] On Oct. 9, 2001, Goshen College professor Jim Miller was killed during a home robbery. Miller’s wife, Linda, was also home during the invasion and suffered serious injuries.

We, the family of James S. Miller, would like to thank the college community for your support during these past weeks. You have accompanied us in many ways, sharing through vigil and memorial gatherings, the special Record edition and contributions to the board posted in the Science building.

Special thanks to President Brenneman for your message at the memorial service at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. Special thanks also to Richard Aguirre and the Public Relations Office for work with the media and for contributing written pieces to the denomination press. And we appreciate the work of the food service, AVI Fresh, in organizing the James Miller Memorial Fundraiser Brunch on December 11.

Spoken and written words of faculty, students and staff have helped up know Jim more completely, the Jim who was teacher, mentor and colleague. Shared recollections reminded us of Jim’s unique style and humor and have been gifts to us. “Jim jokes” have been treasures, giving us smiles in the midst of sadness. Music, in the singing at services and in the GC orchestra’s rendition of Elgar’s Nimrod from the Enigma Variations was beautiful and moving.

You have stood with us during this very hard time and have been agents of God’s grace to us. We know you also grieve, and we pray for healing for the college community.

Words are insufficient, but please know our deep gratitude.Linda Miller, Leanne and Robert
