The Goshen College volleyball team hosted Crossroads League opponent Taylor University last Friday, with the visiting Trojans sweeping the Maple Leafs three sets to none. The scores for the sets were 25-21, 25-22, and 25-10.

Goshen and Taylor played evenly through the first set and a half before the Trojans went on a 40-18 run to finish off the Leafs.

Goshen struggled to find consistency on offense, recording only 22 kills with 21 attack errors, while the Trojans paced the match with 35 kills.

Taylor also recorded four service aces to Goshen’s one and out-assisted the Leafs 34-21.

Defensively, the Trojans had 59 digs to the Leafs’ 54, while Goshen recorded two blocks to Taylor’s zero.

The Leafs were led offensively by Christy Swartzendruber, a junior, who recorded eight kills. Darienne Maust, a first-year, posted 5 kills.

Meghan Gerke, a junior, Kylie Giger, a senior, Lindsay McQuinn, a first-year, and Lexa Magnuson, a senior, each contributed two kills.

Ally Roehr, a first-year, and MacKinnon Tracy, a sophomore, posted all 21 of Goshen’s assists between them with Roehr recording 11 assists and Tracy adding 10.

Giger recorded the Leafs’ only service ace.

Danielle Plank, a junior, led the way defensively for Goshen with a team-high 12 digs.

Tracy and Swartzendruber each had eight digs with Roehr and Hallie Vanitvelt, a sophomore, adding seven and five respectively.

Meghan Manley, a sophomore, Erin Strock, a sophomore, and Magnuson all recorded three digs apiece with Gerke and Maust adding two each.

The loss dropped Goshen’s record to .500 at 10-10 (5-7 in conference) for the season.

The Leafs have lost four of their last five games and look to change their luck with a healthy slate of games this weekend.

Goshen hosted Marian University on Wednesday night with the match finishing before print deadline.

The Leafs will then travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they will play four matches across Friday and Saturday in the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament hosted by Indiana Tech.
