The Goshen College softball team posted a 2-4 record through three double headers over the course of this past week. The Maple Leafs competed against St. Joseph College on Thursday, Purdue University North Central on Friday and Marian University on Sunday.

A fourth contest against Bluffton University, Goshen’s home finale, was scheduled for Tuesday, April 19.  Due to heavy rain, though, this game was postponed until Friday, April 22. The first pitch of the double header will be at 12 p.m.

Managing only two hits in a non-conference game against the NCAA Division II Pumas on Thursday, the Maple Leafs lost both games in the double header. St. Joseph won the two contests on their home field by scores of 10-1 and 8-0.

The team was able to turn things around the very next day with two hard fought victories at home against Purdue University North Central. The Maple Leafs won the opener in extra innings by a score of 4-3. Both first-year Jenna Nofziger and sophomore Kelsey Morris had two hits for Goshen, while sophomore Stacey Klein had a two-run homer to send the game into extra innings. The nightcap was just as close of a contest, but Goshen pulled it out again with a 5-4 victory.

On Sunday, Goshen took on conference opponent Marian University at the Knights home field in Indianapolis. In both games of the double header, Goshen started off strong, taking a 1-0 and 2-0 lead respectively. But it was not enough, as the Maple Leafs were unable to defeat the defending Mid-Central College Conference regular-season champions, falling 2-6 and 2-3.

Goshen (13-17, 5-9 MCC) will travel to Bethel College on Thursday, April 21 and then will finish off conference regular-season play with a home finale against Bluffton University the following day. The Maple Leafs will then prepare for the MCC Tournament, which will be held in Warsaw, Ind. on May 3 and 4.
