This coming weekend, October 2nd through 4th, is Homecoming Weekend.  This means lots of scheduled activities for students and alumni alike.

Following chapel on Friday, there will be an opportunity to meet this year's Culture for Service and Champions of Character alumni award winners.  These awards will be presented Saturday morning at the Alumni Breakfast with President Jim Brenneman. Friday's chapel will highlight 2009 Culture for Service alumni award recipient John L. Martin, Department of Disabilities director for Ohio.

Sports fans will be happy to hear that events on Saturday morning will include a 5k race starting at the Rec-Fitness Center at 8 a.m.

Later that day at 2 p.m., the Men's Soccer team will take on St. Francis.  After the soccer match, Goshen's first alumni vs. student game of ultimate frisbee, one of Goshen's most popular up and coming sports, will also take place on the soccer field.

The schedule on Saturday will feature many events centered around nature and sustainability.  Several professors and faculty will be hosting environmental workshops on campus.  Topics will range from on-site prairie restoration to ecological stewardship.

Also on Saturday, there will be a field trip to Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, featuring a guided tour of the facilities and natural resources.

Homecoming Weekend would not be complete without a variety of musical activities as well.  Lavender Jazz will be playing downtown at First Fridays, complete with swing dancing by Goshen students and a performance by Salsa Verde, the Goshen College salsa club.

Saturday night is also the fall Music Gala, held in Sauder Hall at 7:30 p.m.  All four of Goshen's choirs will perform, as well as the orchestra.

Sunday is the Homecoming Hymn Sing at 11 a.m. in the church-chapel.

In addition to all of these events, each night there will be performances by the theater department.  This weekend's show is the fall One Acts.  For more information about this and the other events on campus this weekend, visit www.goshen.edu/alumni/homecoming.
